Check the payment route
A PhonePe label does not explain every transaction’s funding source or merchant arrangement. Read the route and account shown in the application. Availability on one website or device does not establish availability everywhere.
Locate the original transaction
Use the transaction history to identify the amount, recipient, reference and status. A merchant screenshot and an application status can describe different stages. When requesting help, state both clearly and redact unrelated account information.
Recognise refund impersonation
PhonePe’s safety guidance warns against approving requests or entering a PIN to receive money. Someone claiming to release a refund should not need your PIN, OTP or remote control of your device. Consult the application’s own help entry rather than an unsolicited contact.
