Card type and account settings
Debit, credit and prepaid cards can have different issuer settings. International or online controls may also affect a checkout. Check the specific account in the issuer’s own application; a Mastercard mark alone does not describe its permitted uses.
Currency at checkout
Compare the currency on the checkout screen with the account currency. Conversion and issuer charges can affect the posted amount. Save the confirmation showing the original amount so it can be compared with the final statement.
Authentication and unresolved charges
Complete authentication only through the legitimate issuer flow. Do not disclose a one-time code to someone claiming to troubleshoot a payment. For an unfamiliar charge, retain the statement entry and contact the issuer through its published support channel.
