Esports Markets: Maps, Series & Roster Rules

An esports market should identify the game title, competition, series format and unit being measured. Similar team names alone are not enough.

Start with the title and competition

Teams can compete across different games, and organisations can field more than one roster. Confirm the actual game title, tournament and match identifier. A brand name familiar from one title does not identify the participants or format in another.

Maps and series are separate outcomes

A series can contain several maps or games. A selection on one map is not equivalent to an overall series winner, and handicap wording should state the unit being adjusted. Record the format and whether the listed map is known or subject to selection.

Roster changes and technical interruptions

Substitutions, disconnects, server problems and replayed segments can affect a fixture. Read the operator’s rules for the relevant competition, including rescheduling and forfeits. A broadcast interruption is not, by itself, proof that the underlying match has stopped.

Use the stated result source

Different platforms can update scoreboards at different times. Check which official result or statistical source the market uses and how corrections are handled. If information conflicts, preserve the event and market description rather than attempting to reconcile it from a clip alone.
